Smashing Pumpkins! MP Maria Eagle announces our pumpkin carving comp winners
Published: 5 November 2020
We’re delighted to announce the winners of our Halloween pumpkin carving competition, with three lucky winners receiving shopping vouchers for their spooktacular efforts.
In previous years we’ve held Halloween celebrations at Grow Speke, our community garden, but this year, alas, is different. Instead, we hatched a haunting plan to get the whole of our community involved, and asked our Facebook followers to send in pics of their pumpkins, with MP for Speke and Garston, Maria Eagle, kindly volunteering to judge.
Thanks to a generous donation from Morrisons, Speke, we also sent out 50 special pumpkin carving packs to families who have regularly supported previous years’ Halloween events.
Maria Eagle MP announces the winning designs
Without further ado, we hand over to Maria Eagle MP to announce the winners.
This has been really hard to judge because they are all brilliant and imaginative and I can tell that the whole family has got involved with lots of them, indeed, there are whole families of Jack ‘O’ Lanterns in some of the entries.
First Prize goes to Heidi for an unusual but effective take on the traditional scary pumpkin. It is very artistically carved – not easy to do but I loved the spirals and curves of the face. Heidi receives £30 in shopping vouchers.
Second Prize goes to the Dooley family for a whole family of scary, including scary baby and scary cat, but they’re also well done and cute. The Dooleys receive £20 in shopping vouchers.
Third Prize goes to Mared, I thought that the combination of a witch flying over the Liverpool skyline made it both scary and nearby and it looks really great. Mared receives £20 in shopping vouchers.
Thanks to everyone who took part in this year’s socially distanced pumpkin competition. We look forward to next year when we hope that our fantastic Grow Speke event will make its spooky return!
